(1) In an academic paragraph, please describe how stage two of the Hero’s Journey applies to the beginning of the Epic of Gilgamesh. (What shakes Gilgamesh from the ordinary world? What is his call to adventure?)
Gilgamesh is called to adventure when he befriends the wild man Enkidu. He decides for them that they will venture to the Forest of Cedar and kill Humbaba. Humbaba is a terrible monster that has “speech [of] fire, and breath [of] death!” Enkidu has stopped Gilgamesh from harassing his people, so he needs to channel his cruel nature into the murder of Humbaba.
(2) In an academic paragraph, please describe how stage three applies to the beginning of the
