1 What did you expect from this course at the start of the semester?
My expectations from this course at the beginning of the quarter were to learn about different nutrition intervention programs around the world and the effective were these. I also expected to be able to use information learned from this course in my personal life as well as in my professional life in the health field. Finally, I also expected to learn about nutrition-related problems that I was not aware at the beginning of this course.

Ten weeks ago, my primary sources were media, more specifically information from news sources, and word of mouth. Now my primary sources are the World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and scientific articles from nutrition-related journals. Databases and e-libraries from the WHO, WFP and FAO such as the WHO’s eLENA are examples of sources to gather information about food and nutrition. This change of primary sources of information comes from what I have learned from this course, about what are reliable sources. It is easy to get information about food and nutrition through word of mouth, but accurate information, as well as analysis of different factors related to a topic, should come from specialized …show more content…
Through this course, I have learned that it is not just about what to eat, but also the quantity, about paying attention to micronutrients. The discussion from week 3, the What the World Eats slideshow helped me to learn more about the typical weekly food consumption patterns of families they met across the globe. My attitude that people around the world should eat less processed food was reinforced, the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages should also be reduced. What did change was my focus, since before this course, my attitudes and beliefs were generalized for everyone living in the United States. Now, I have learned that we should focus on the needs of each member of a family in the US and abroad, as well as on topics such as food security and food
