The interviews conducted discussed why obesity is such a problem in the community and what is being done to help the affected population in Southeast Queens, as well as what services are being provided to help bring awareness to the community. During the interviews some of the people I spoke with were a PE teacher, personal trainer, Physicians. Topics discussed in the interview were about people in the community that live sedentary lifestyle and consume unhealthy diets. One interview I conducted was with the YMCA. We discussed ways the community could learn to get healthy. They offer group exercise classes, personal training, water exercise, as well as Nutritional Counseling. There is a dietician on staff that will assess your dietary needs and develop personalized nutrition plan to help the community members reach their health

For people to make healthier food choices, healthier food options must be made accessible. The minority families of this community who have a lower income have less access to healthier food and beverages as well as less access to outdoor facilities. The people of this community are creatures of habit they will continue to habitually eat poorly and not exercise until there is a concerted effort to break habits and ensure access to affordable options. My goal for improvement is to help create access as well as accessibility for this to happen.
D1, D1a. Nursing Action Plan, Population focused Objectives My action plan for this population will be to work with community restaurant and store owners to increase the serving size of fruits and vegetables by 10% at public venues. As well as improve access to recreational areas by 10% in the community. In the lower income areas they have less access to farmers markets and restaurants are not offering enough health conscious meals. The second issue are the parks have limited running trails for people to exercise.

The second intervention would be assessed for effectiveness by visiting the NYC parks department website to see how many running trails were their prior to the proposal and how many were implemented after 18months. The site would also be checked to see how many more people are now visiting the parks as opposed to prior to the addition of the running
