Are Companies To Blame For Childhood Obesity?

Late research shows companies who control the food industry make tens of billions of dollars which directly affects 1.5 million people. These corporations influence weight gain by marketing their products to be cheap and convenient while healthy food is not. Weintraub’s argument is parents are to blame for childhood obesity. I disagree for several reasons. To begin with, corporations price their food to be reasonably cheap, which I believe is not an accident. Low funds encourage buyers to continue to purchase the nourishments because it is affordable compared to what is considered healthy food. Every time a friend comes over or vice versa, we order in because we would rather get something low priced than spend the money to make something of our own. …show more content…
Unfortunately, my family and I know from experience. I am raised by a single mom who works 8 hours Monday through Friday to get food on the table. When she comes home from a long day on the job, she’s not in an optimistic mood to cook. Therefore, we go to places like McDonalds or Taco Bell.
Finally, companies do not take the time to educate people on what they are consuming. If it wasn’t for this class and other personal researches I would have never imagined what I ate regularly could be so damaging. There should be nutrition classes implemented in schools, or options available that are similar.
To conclude, I strongly believe fast food companies are to blame for childhood obesity. It would be beneficial if guardians regulated what their child eats, but it has to start off from the main predator which is fast
