Reading Observation

I began observing the teacher during the reading lesson. I wanted to see how she handled wait time during the lesson. She began the lesson by asking the students, “Can someone tell me what letter we talked about yesterday?” Mackenzie raised her hand first and the teacher called on her right away. She then asked the students, “Can anyone give me an example of what might start with the letter S? A few students raised their hand and she called on Sam. Sam answered the question by saying, “Apple.” The teacher then said, “No that doesn’t start with S.” She then pointed to the board and asked the students to look at the picture next to the letter S on their chart. Another student raised her hand and the teacher called on her to respond. This student

Along with these elementary operants, there are also more complex verbal behaviors. These complex behaviors include tact extensions and generalization, automatic reinforcement and private events. For Joey, it is hypothesized that the problem behavior of swearing is due to a private event that is occurring because of frustration and misunderstanding of what is being expected from him. Initial Assessment Joey has been referred to the Oak City Applied Behavior Analysis Center to focus on these behaviors. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) has begun working on Joey’s case.…

In the article “How do you learn to walk? Thousands of steps and dozens of falls per day”, experimental research was done to find an answer to how infants learn to walk. Previous research was conducted on this topic, but it did not show anything about how much or how far infants walk, how often they fall, what makes them continue walking after falling, and how these abilities change with development. Researchers have simply focused on the structure of postures from a crawling to an upright walking position and the regular steps of infants on open grounds where they have to use natural locomotion, or the natural ability to move. This process is known as periodic gait.…

While observing in Beth Johnston’s First Grade classroom at Eugene Field Elementary School, I have noticed some effective and ineffective classroom management practices that she uses while I have been in the classroom. One effective classroom management technique that I have observed is that Mrs. Johnston puts her student’s desks into groups of three or four. This is an effective technique because she puts her strong students with her not as strong students, which can help with the students who might need a little help staying on track with the lesson that they are supposed to get done. Also, Mrs. Johnston has changed the groups a couple of times since I have been observing in the classroom. This I believe is effective because the students…

The production of the play Almost, Maine performed by students at Florida Southern College is an overall “A”. Though it is not the greatest or the most memorable play that has been produced on the Buckner stage, but it nonetheless was a well performed and routine work with portraying the rise and fall of love through the magic of comedy and heart-break. The actor whom stood out the most to me was Joey Hedrick portraying Dave in the final scene, “Seeing the Thing”. Joey Hedrick as Dave, showed his super objective of trying to finally get the thoughts out of the love oblivious, Rhonda, by a simple painting of a heart signifying his proclaimed love for her. His beat-to-beat objective shows an eagerness to go into her house, which he has been…

My observation of Ms. de la Fuente’s 5th grade class this week started after lunch during their math time. On Wednesday, their schedule had been different from normal and there was two other teachers in the classroom teaching them about different types of rocks. On Thursday, a sixth grade math teacher came to the classroom to further explain what they had been learning about conversions, and to tell them about what they would learn next year when they went to sixth grade.. During arrival in the morning and dismissal in the afternoon, the same routine is followed on almost all days. In the morning, the students go wait in the gym and are picked up by the teacher when the first bell rings.…

This year the sixth grade students boarded the plane to Middle School. For the first time, the sixth grade students had to be able to do many things that they were not used to doing in fifth grade back in Elementary School. Some of those things include being able to open a combination lock, being able to get to classes on time with a four minute passing period, and they had to manage nine different classes throughout the entire school day. Also, the sixth graders did some really exciting things this year such as mummifying a chicken in Social Studies. Throughout the school year the school held a couple pf parties for just the sixth grade students to enjoy.…

Cognitive Observation 2 During the first twelve months of life newborns are initiating cause and effect. While, there is no such thing as two infants developing in exactly the same way, there are milestones that young children should reach by certain ages in order to determine growth. As they begin to relate to their immediate surroundings, infants initiate behaviors that establish cognitive development by way of their developing senses (hearing, taste, smell etc.). This is known as, the Sensorimotor Stage of Cognitive Development.…
