The stages in reading words is a developmental process when a child learns to read. Although they may be the same age, children will not begin to read at the same time. Literacy milestones are learned as the child developes. Before they begin to read a basic oral vocabulary and alphabetic understanding is learned. Children who enter school with the same chronological age will be at various reading development stages.
