Pursuing A High School Education Essay

The United States Of America has one of the highest high school dropout rates of any country. They are ranked number twenty- two out of twenty- seven. There are number of reasons why someone would not be able to pursue a high school education. There must be a reason why the United States has such a large amount of high school dropouts.

The amount of high school dropouts in the United States is alarming. In the United States alone more than 1.2 million students drop out of high school. The question is, why? Why does America have such a large amount of students who don’t finish their high school education. There are many factors that play a role in the problem. According to Anya Kamenetz "A minority, they found, were really unable to cut it academically." This could be because the parents that belong to the different minority groups may not have gotten an education either. For example, my father moved to America at the tender age of seventeen. He came here to get an education and to have a better life. Instead of going to college he went straight into the

workforce. I believe that this decision was not only based off of what he wanted to do but also his parents. His parents came from a third world country and didn’t have the opportunity to gain an education. If his parents would have gotten a high school education there would be a higher chance that he would have gotten a high school education.
