The Value Of Education In America

In the United States of America, we are very privileged to have universal education. While it is not free, it is payed for by taxpayers. This means that kids who would not normally be able to afford a private education are able to receive a the same quality of learning experiences as the rest of their peers. America was founded on the principle of equal opportunity. Unlike other countries before us, we have not predisposed people’s success to their bloodline. America is the land of opportunity where even the orphaned, disadvantaged, poor population can become millionaires. While our education system is not perfect, and it may have many flaws, it is still a necessary program that just needs some fixing. To begin with, I do not think the “one size fits all” assembly line that school is pushing us down is efficient or the best thing for the students. It seems like our school system and many parents all just want us to go to college; putting us in a troubling position of possibly being in thousands of dollars of debt after graduation with no job offer to show for it. It is a functioning system that has produced some great, productive citizens over the years, but it can definitely be improved. We need to make class sizes smaller so teachers can better help students. Also, we need to get rid of the predisposition that every student needs to be good at the same things to succeed. There are many different types of intelligence that unique people possess, but it seems as if the only one that our school system cares about is how good you are at taking tests. The American education system is broken, but it can be made prosperous with changes to make school for the students
