Purpose and Benefits of a Career Map
A career map is an outline that helps individuals put on paper what their plans are for the next few years. The purpose of a career map is to use the detailed information in order to make future decisions at ease. While a career map may not be exact, it certainly has a number of benefits that arise from creating one. When one creates a career map, they tend to be more organized. They can anticipate what is coming in the near future. The career map may also help to identify how to deal with a situation at hand. Once you finish a goal, you tend to feel good about it, so after you complete a number of them, you will become more confident on making things happen. You will begin to reach beyond your normal self and achieve your highest potential. Goal setting will also help you to live life to the fullest. While you were in Introduction to Business, you made a career map, and it mapped out all the Marketing courses you planned on taking the four years on campus and you even set goals for yourself in Marketing. However, by Spring of your sophomore year, you decide that Marketing just is not for you, and you want to switch your major to Accounting. Now that you have switched your major, your career map will not match up with the courses that you are now required to take. If changes occur, it is important that you update your career map.
