The purpose of a career map is to use the detailed information in order to make future decisions at ease. While a career map may not be exact, it certainly has a number of benefits that arise from creating one. When one creates a career map, they tend to be more organized. They can anticipate what is coming in the near future. The career map may also help to identify how to deal with a situation at hand. When you set a goal and a specific time in which the goals needs to be completed, you hold yourself responsible for finishing the task. You find yourself staying away from distractions. Your main focus is on completing your goal. Not only does goal setting help you stay in control of time, it also helps you become more confident in yourself. Once you finish a goal, you tend to feel good about it, so after you complete a number of them, you will become more confident on making things happen. You will begin to reach beyond your normal self and achieve your highest potential. Goal setting will also help you to live life to the fullest. By setting goals that have specific time frames, you can ensure that you are maximizing your experiences while you are here. You can also ensure that you are getting the most out of every moment. Throughout your journey of completing goals and gaining the experiences that come from it, you can almost bet that you will become the best version of yourself.

While you were in Introduction to Business, you made a career map, and it mapped out all the Marketing courses you planned on taking the four years on campus and you even set goals for yourself in Marketing. However, by Spring of your sophomore year, you decide that Marketing just is not for you, and you want to switch your major to Accounting. Now that you have switched your major, your career map will not match up with the courses that you are now required to take. If changes occur, it is important that you update your career map. Updating your career map will help you stay organized even when a change does
