Ariely Vs Dinsmore

A person’s career is a popular topic of conversation. Often times used as conversation starter, a person’s career is a way to see deeper into someone and who they are as a person. The personal goals of employees are often very different. Certain individuals hope to obtain the highest paying position, while some individuals hope to make the biggest impact they can on a specific issue. No matter what the ultimate goal of a career is most people hope to do work everyday that they enjoy. In the TED talks “How to Find Work you Love” by Scott Dinsmore and “What Makes us Feel Good About our Work?” by Dan Ariely the topic of passion and work is explored. Dinsmore and Ariely take very different avenues to investigate this topic. Although both authors show the benefits someone can find from doing work they enjoy, their arguments how people obtain this enjoyment are different. Dinsmore’s relatable approach allowed him to connect with the audience. The introduction of his company “Live your Legend”, which is a company that allows people to discover careers that they can find their passion within, helped him gain credibility from the audience. This company shows that he has done this as career and people have actually benefited from the advice he is currently sharing with them. Ariely’s character is shown in the multiple studies he shares with the audience throughout his presentation. The hard evidence showing that people are motivated when they can actually see their work is convincing. Ariely rarely mentions his own credentials throughout the speech.
