Effective Goal Setting

Effective goals are essential in student’s life in order to complete tasks of high importance, those who set these are likely to reach them. Educational goals motivate the pupil to put in academic effort in order to achieve their ultimate goal. Goals that are set then completed create a sense of achievement plus accomplishment that could lead to achieving bigger goals. Successful people always have had clear, focused goals that guide them into greatness (Laura A Rader). Goal setting involves multiple steps, which involve the setting of academic short-term goals and long ones. In order to reach a goal, there numerous steps must be followed. In her article “Goal setting for student and teachers” Laura A. Rader explains that in order to reach a goal it may take several steps, nonetheless they are necessary in order to successfully reach victory. The first step: select a specific goal and write it down (Laura A. Rader 2). Physically seeing what is sought to be accomplished will serve as a self-reminder of what is being worked for. The second step: decide a time when the goal will be achieved (Laura A. Rader 2). Time setting, an essential step, assists in determining whether it will be completed right away or how much time the person will have to devote. These can be reached within days, weeks or months. Ultimate goals can take months or years to complete, these are considered long term goals. Following step by step the process will support reaching short-term goals eventually aiding in achieving those long-term goals. Setting these types of goals should remain important in education as they will likely lead to graduation in addition to the obtainment of a degree. “Teaching goal setting is a clearly defined method for redirecting the teaching pattern…” (Laura A. Raider 3) and making wise decisions in
