Physical abuse is an act of another party involving contact intended to cause feelings of physical pain, injury or other physical suffering or body harm including hitting, slapping, pushing, kicking, or inappropriate behaviour.
Symptoms of physical abuse
• Multiple bruising
• Fractures, burns, bed sores, fear, depression
• Unexplained weight loss
Sexual abuse is a statutory offence it is a crime to knowingly cause another person to engage in an unwanted act by force or threat.

Emotional/ psychological abuse is subject an individual to bullying tactics such as threats. Bullies can take away self confidence make people believe they are ugly, fat, stupid, no one wants them, they are unloved. In the elderly people threaten to put them in a home. Mental and emotional abuse can be between couples in a relationship, siblings, elderly; this can include threats of harm or abandonment, depravation of contact, controlling, harassment, verbal, abuse, isolation. Symptoms of emotional psychological abuse • Fear, depression, confusion • Loss of sleep • Deprivation of liberty • False imprisonment • Aggressiveness • Shouting • Causing fear of violence, change in behaviour. Financial abuse is a form of mistreatment and fraud in which somebody forcibly controls another person's money or assets. It can involve stealing cash, not allowing the victim to take part in any financial decisions; it also includes theft, fraud, exploitation, financial transactions. Symptoms of financial abuse • Unexplained withdrawal • Unusual activity in the bank accounts • Unpaid bills • Unexplained shortage of money • Fraud and theft • Unable to buy basic food and clothing Neglect by others is failure to provide the necessities of life to the individual with the intent to physically harm the individual. …show more content…

Factors to an individual being more vulnerable to abuse
• Less aware of rights
• Socially isolated
• Needs help with daily care and personal care
• Unable to express clearly
• Sharing a home with people they have not chosen to be with
• Poor housing
• Needs more care than a carer can give
• Not knowing how to complain
• History of substance misuse
• Limited life experience and not recognising risky situations
Actions to take if there are suspicions that an individual is being abused
Do
• Be accessible and respective to listen
• Listen carefully
• Take it seriously
• Reassure that they are right to tell
• Negotiate in getting help
• Find help quickly
• Make careful records of what was said using the individual in a vulnerable situation own words as soon as practicable following the disclosure
• Date, time, sign the record
• The record would be used in any legal proceedings
