• Sexual knowledge or behaviour that is inappropriate to the child’s age
• Medical problems like chronic itching or pain in the genital area
• Depression, committing self-mutilation, attempted suicide, running away, overdoses or anorexia, saying repeatedly that they are bad, dirty or wicked

• Regressing to behaviour patterns of a younger child
• A sudden loss of appetite or begin compulsive eating
• Being isolated or withdrawn
• Inability to concentrate
• Lack of trust or fearful of someone they know well
• Starting to wet or soil again
• Becoming worried about removing clothing in front of anyone
• Drawing picture of a sexually explicit nature
• Trying to be ‘ultra-good’ or always perfect, possibly overreacting to criticism
In this day and age it should not happen but Neglect, which can result in the failure to thrive, is when parents or carers looking after the child do not even provide them with their basic physical and /or psychological needs, such as the proper food, somewhere warm, sufficient shelter, proper clothing, care or protection
Signs and symptoms of neglect can include but are not limited to:

• Constant tiredness
• Poor state of
• Frequently unwell due to unhygienic living
