Elderly Care in Nursing Homes
There is much in life to reflect on especially for the elderly and different aspects of the care they either do or don’t receive in nursing facilities. According to the UN’s(United Nations) report elder abuse is, “A single, or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust which causes harm or distress to an older person.”(UN, Elder Abuse Article) Almost 70% of elderly suffer neglect from their caregivers at home or at a nursing home. The CDC reported that 41 in 1000 seniors suffer some type of abuse from neglect to sexual abuse. First, physical aggression / abuse or physical abuse — which are violent acts such as the use of physical force in an intentional, non-accidental manner, usually caused by a person in a power relation to the other, with the purpose of injuring, injuring or destroying the victim, leaving or not obvious marks on his body. Second, sexual Assault / Abuse - a sexual act or game that occurs in a heterosexual or homosexual relationship that aims to stimulate the victim or use it for sexual arousal and erotic and sexual practices imposed through grooming, physical violence or threats. Third, psychological abuse or psychological maltreatment — verbal or gestural aggression with the aim of terrorizing, rejecting, humiliating the victim, restricting freedom, punishing or even isolating the victim from social interaction with others. Last but not least, negligence/abandonment — absence or desertion, by the caregiver, of the necessary care for victims, which would provide for physical custody or care.· Negligence - act of omission of the person in charge· Self-neglect - conduct of a person who threatens his or her own health or safety, with refusal or failure to provide adequate care.
