Like the whole point of studying is to get a good grade and the whole point of working is to get money. We should purse to happiness or what makes us happy like money or whatever that is for you. The principle of utility is that “we should act always to produce the greatest good for the greatest number” like choosing the action that would produce the most overall happiness for the group, even though it could be less happy for you than what the other alternatives could have done. Which emphasizes an individuals character rather than following a set of rules. If we can focus on being good people, the right actions will follow. Everything has a proper function and its good if it fulfills what its supposed to and bad if it doesn’t. Like a phone, if it can’t call then its bad. So being virtue is doing the right thing at the right time in the right way. Virtue is a good behavior and its just the right amount between deficiency and excess and the right spot to be is called the golden mean . So, for example if your friend is being beat up then you need to have courage to help him.
