Post-traumatic stress disorder is a psychological disorder that unfortunately many people seem to experience throughout their life. Often at times we hear the word “PTSD” when someone is talking about this disorder. This disorder is not something that I have experienced first-hand; however my sister was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after she was deployed in the Marines. Post-traumatic stress disorder is something that can be very scary at times, and can cause an individual to “go crazy.” The scientific definition of post-traumatic stress disorder is a psychological disorder that can develop in some people that have lived through or seen an awful, dangerous, or terrifying event.
Doctors are unsure as to why many individuals get PTSD; however there seems to be probable causes that have been seen in many other individuals that currently have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. One of the most common causes that have been seen is experiencing a horrible life experience. I can understand why this would be a probable cause because with my sister being in the Marines, she saw and experienced many frightening and terrifying events such as shooting a gun, watching people die, and the constant thought of death running through her mind. Another possible cause is hereditary psychological health risks, such as increased risk of anxiety or depression.
