This study has presented a critical discussion on oral hygiene provided for elderly patients post stroke by nursing staff in a hospitalised setting. It has highlighted current trust policies, best practice guidelines and protocols .It also included the roles of the nurse in providing oral care to post stroke patient which has been discussed throughout this dissertation. This work focussed mainly on the literature research and emerging themes, which identified the aims of oral care, effects of poor oral care, attitudes towards oral care and oral care assessment tools for post stroke patients were also discussed. It explored the global impact of poor oral health.
