“The whole notion of pain, and how every individual experiences pain, is up for debate. We don 't know how another person experiences pain - physical pain or psychic pain. Some of these clinics where assisted suicide or euthanasia is practiced, they call it 'weariness of life. '” (Toews). For many years, those dubbed with the burden of cancer and other terminal illnesses have to suffer through a slow and painful death in the end. However we respect animals with these illnesses more than our own kind by putting them out of their misery. What if we can treat ourselves with the same respect, though there is more that goes into a human’s death, like a will, a death certificate, and many more, we can still help. This can be done with physician assisted suicide. It has been illegal for as long as physicians became prevalent, but recent political debates might change this.
WHAT PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE IS
Physician assisted suicide (PAS), is a process of euthanasia. “One of medicine 's most important purposes is to allow hopelessly ill persons to die with as much comfort, control, and dignity as possible” (Site 3). It is used to let the terminally ill die more comfortably and peacefully. Most of the patients who are eligible to receive this treatment have cancer. Some patients have more rare deadly conditions. Usually this treatment is given with either a shot or pills. As you can see this is less painful than any other known form of suicide.
