Bring it on. When people think about a typical cheerleader, they always think short skirts, loud voices, and tons of energy. Cheerleaders are not just spirited people in uniform. Cheerleaders are commonly seen on the sidelines of a football game. They normally not thought of as a sport because they cheer for another sport playing like football. Some people may argue cheer is a hobby and not a sport. However, competitive cheerleading is different from sideline cheerleading. Sideline cheerleaders are the typical cheerleaders that people automatically picture in a cliché movie where head cheerleader dates jock. One of the main reason is that they believe it is not head on competition with other team. For this reason, they explain that cheerleaders does not have a team to go directly against them to win. Moreover, in cheerleading there is not much competition and that cheerleader just dancing and getting the crowd going for other sports. Although if you were to ask the countless people that has been a part of competitive cheerleading they will argue that cheer is a sport for they have the same obstacles as any other sport. In addition, many would feel that cheer was created just to get the crowd to have good spirit and cheer for sports like football. When a person defines a sport, most think of a physical activity with rules and regulation to follow, a team or person that has to practice and have serious risk when playing. Nonetheless, cheerleading is a sport and with time, it may become a well-known sport like football and basketball. Hence, competitive cheerleading is a sport as it takes the same practice to improve as in any other sport.
