In high school, you see the soccer players, the football players, the track team and many other sports teams on the football field. On the court you see volleyball players and basketball players playing as "sports teams", but you never hear of the other team in their bows and skirts being referred to as a sports team. That's because cheerleading hasn't made its way to be a sport yet. While people might think that they don't compete or that they just yell and smile, they do much more like competing, supporting, jumping, tumbling, stunting and so many other things. Every part of the definition is displayed by high school cheerleaders. Cheerleaders are expected to be in good physical condition and they should be able to master skills that require working physical strength and stamina. Also, a cheer squad not only supports teams that are competing for the school, they also train and repeatedly practice to compete against other teams across their region or state for awards and titles just as every other sport does.
Another reason that cheerleading should be a sport is because of how similar it is to other activities that are considered sports. It's similar to both gymnastics and acrobatic gymnastics because it requires a lot of strength and the ability to tumble. It also requires teamwork, balance and focus to be able to lift other people into the air to hold or to do a trick.
