Smoking can be a difficult habit to break because it is an addiction. Like any addiction, whether to street drugs, prescription medication or alcohol, tobacco requires a withdrawal period for the body to detoxify from all the harmful chemicals left behind. Tobacco subjects the body to deadly poisoning and mistreatment. Whether that decision was by personal choice is one thing but there are those that are placed in harms way by simply being exposed to the smoke. The effects of this second- hand exposure are vicious and cause long-term damage. There is no risk-free level of exposure; even brief exposure can be harmful and lead to death. My idea is to just ban tobacco us and make it illegal . Many other countries have already banned smoking in public places and a few have banned Tobacco altogether. Why not ban tobacco in the United States too? The withdrawal period from tobacco is 72 hours. 3 days. That 's it. The rest is all about having a motivation for quitting, a positive and healthy environment and a caring support system. There is even prescription medication such as Zyban and Chantix that can help with smoking cessation. We must treat tobacco like we treat any other illegal drug. Make it illegal and ban it in America and around the world. Tobacco is as addictive as any drug and can be a gateway to many other illegal street drugs. Although my idea of banning tobacco and making it illegal may have been previously proposed by others I will never think of it as impossible or extreme. I bet if you had a loved one painfully suffering and slowly dying of cancer or condemned to an oxygen mask like a shackled prisoner, nothing would seem too impossible to save them. I speak from experience and memories when I say this. Early in my adolescence, I too became a statistic and a slave to the deadly and alluring tobacco culture.
