This should not be a reason to ban it. It is true that marijuana is an addictive drug, but it doesn’t mean that people will get addicted to this drug. There are lots of addictive drugs in the world like caffeine and alcohol, and obsession of these drugs will also cause harmful effects on humans. But again, it doesn’t mean people will be addicted to these, it simply depends on people’s own choice. And prohibition won’t help lessen people’s addiction to a particular drug; they would just seek illegal ways to satisfy their desire for that drug. Economically, government can increase tax revenue and increase job opportunities in order to lower unemployment rate in society. In addition, this can even attract tourist to come and boost economic growth. Medically, hospitals or doctors are permitted to use marijuana for medical purposes. People can use it to reduce stress instead of consuming alcohol, which will cause more harmful health effects. Marijuana may replace alcohol; driving accidents caused by alcohol intoxication will decrease. One might say that there is a possibility for people to be addicted to Marijuana; therefore, regulation is extremely important but not prohibition. As long as the government can strictly regulate the use of marijuana, it will be beneficial to legalize marijuana. Education for proper use of marijuana will be helpful also; it will be cost effective to promote education rather than prohibition.
