Clearing the Smoke The initial purpose of vaping products was to decrease the use of nicotine products all together. However, kids in Hawaii, are using it for a contradictory purpose. Underage children are purchasing vape pens and mods to up their milligrams of nicotine. Friends of mine, are on both sides. I know a few who are actually trying to cut back on their cigarette consumption, but I know others who started at the lowest level of nicotine (0mg) and moved up to 24mg of nicotine. Personally, I have tried it to see what all the hype was about-0mg of course-and I couldn’t see what the appeal was. While there is no problem with wanting to quit smoking, there is a problem with misusing vaping devices to get addicted to nicotine. Alarmed by the rising e-cigarette usage in Hawaii, the state has decided to raise the smoking age to 21 in efforts to limit teen smoking. Starting January 1st of 2016, Hawaii will become the first state in the nation to ban the usage of tobacco products for people under 21. People’s bodies have become accustomed to having a certain amount of nicotine. If they initially chose a lighter nicotine replacement that could result in “compensation smoking”. Compensation smoking is when you end up smoking more to make up for the nicotine that your body needs and craves (How para 26). Yes, vaping is meant to save money and lacks the second hand smoke. But at the expense of your own health, and possibly getting more addicted to nicotine products. Although I concede, the fruity flavors leave a more desirable fragrance, and supposedly doesn’t contain all the harmful carcinogens found in regular cigarettes, people within this new generation misuse this new-age
