The legal age to smoke should go up to 21 due to it’s ability to save lives, and make fewer people start smoking in turn making less people die from smoking. Each year over 6 million people die from tobacco products due to lung cancer and other related illnesses every cigarette you smoke takes 7-11 minutes of your life acording to the American Cancer Scociety. So it will cause you to lose more time of your life smoking than it takes you to smoke. This means that take the time it takes you to smoke and multiply it by 3 after that you will have about the amount of time you just took your life for just a few puffs. In the first place, Tobacco Free Kids states, “Raising the legal minimum age for cigarette purchaser of 21 could make our average age expectancy up.” Raising the minimum age to smoke will make lives longer due to the fact that smokers won’t be smoking for as long. So since every cigarette takes off 7 minutes, then the less you smoke the more time you will live.
