Receently the question of weather the e-cigarettes should have a sin tax placed on it or not has arisen. Because e-cigarettes are healthier than conventional cigarettes, don’t have second hand smoke and can help smokers quit their bad habit, e-cigarettes should not have a sin tax placed on them.

First of all e-cigarettes are healthier than conventional cigarettes. For example conventional cigarettes contain tar, carbon monoxide, acetine and give off a noxious smelling smoke. E-cigarettes on the other hand only contain nicotine and release water vapor. Smoking is known to causes heart disease, blood cancer, coughing and lung cancer just to name a few, but vaping has no neggative affects (Pientrangelo).

Not only are e-cigarettes healthier than conventional cigarettes, they also release no toxic chemicals through second hand smoke. Instead they just produce a water vapor. Second hand smoke is known to cause asthma attacks, ear infections, respitory issues, SIDS, and lung cancer. Since 1964, about 2,500,00 people have died from the direct cause of second hand smoke (Generals).

The study found that people who wanted to quit smoking were about 60 percent more likely to succeed if they used e-cigarettes compared to would-be quitters who tried an anti-smoking nicotine patch or gum (Reinburg). It is estimated that over 5 million people will die from smoking this year alone and e-cigarettes could be a way to save some
