Argumentative Essay On Vaping

Although there has not been much research about it yet, vaping is becoming the next big thing in the smoking community. People are beginning to find out that there is a better, safer, and much cheaper alternative to smoking. That alternative is an Electronic Cigarette, which was first invented by a man by the name of Hon. The first “vaporizer” consisted of 3 simple parts: a lithium-ion battery, a small cartridge filled with the “e-juice”, and an atomizer, which is used to create heat, causing the juice to “vaporize”, making it ready to inhale. Cigarettes are made by growing tobacco, E-cigarettes contain far less chemicals than original cigarettes do. Although they are still a new thing, they have not led to any deaths, unlike original cigarettes. Vaping does not cause the drowsiness, fatigue, and …show more content…
Vaping is a significantly better alternative to smoking. E-cigarettes contain far less chemicals than traditional cigarettes. The juice used for vaping consists of only PG (Propylene Glycol), VG (Vegetable Glycerin), flavoring and nicotine, if wanted. PG and VG fall under the FDA’s “generally recognized as safe” category. There has been information found that vapor created from e-cigarettes and other vaping devices is non-toxic. “Cigarette smoke contains over 4000 chemicals, including 43 known cancer-causing compounds and 400 other toxins.” Traditional cigarettes have been around long enough to have plenty of evidence that there are many

Some people believe that they can be used like patches or gum to quit smoking and they are overall better than normal cigarettes. One study says, “Advocates claim that the devices which use battery power to aerosolize nicotine into a chemical propellant, offer significant harm reduction because they do not create the carcinogenic combustion products found in conventional paper cigarettes” (Chang). This study says that people for e-cigarettes believe that they are better because they do not contain the combustion products that paper cigarettes do. In contrast to that, the FDA says that even though they do not give away toxins associated with combustion like cigarettes, they do still give away chemicals that could possibly be a concern (Kuehn). Even though they are better than conventional cigarettes in the way of not containing combustion products, we do not know if they ‘offer significant harm reduction’ because there is still a vast amount of research that needs to be done on the juice, vapor, and more.…

Electronic cigarettes are increasing in popularity, in particular with people who already smoke traditional cigarettes, some of whom are trying to use electronic cigarettes as a gateway to quitting smoking. Electronic cigarettes produce a water-based vapor instead of the combustible smoke produced by the tobacco in regular cigarettes. They contain a battery that heats a liquid containing nicotine, a variety of other chemicals, and sometimes propellants or flavorings, and changes this liquid into vapor, which is then inhaled, simulating the feeling of normal smoking (Hanson). The health effects of electronic cigarettes have been debated since e-cigarettes became available, with some saying that they are much healthier than traditional cigarettes…

Surely, the reduction of known carcinogenic ingredients of tobacco cigarettes is a huge benefit, but is the inhalation of solvents and unknown flavorings any better? Limited tests and the lack of any long-term data is work that needs to be done. What is known is that nicotine is unquestionably an addictive substance and that it has serious health risks associated with its use. It is also mostly agreed upon that there needs to be restrictions on the sale of nicotine containing substances to minors. I agree with the argument that e-cigs have the potential to draw in users who would not have consumed tobacco cigarettes otherwise, either by the lure of the flavoring options, the ease that they can be obtained, or the advertisements by manufacturers saying that they are healthier than tobacco cigarettes.…
