That there are completely the same or not as harmful as tobacco, or that it will enable them to slowly cut out tobacco out of their daily routines, whereas I believe they’re just as harmful as tobacco cigarettes and will not make it easier to quit smoking. A number of young adults have come to the conclusion that electronic cigarettes are not harmful at all to your body when inhaling this vaporized substance, and that you’re perfectly fine when smoking. There are some side effects that have been brought up since the use of e-cigarettes. For example Carrie Arnold, a Freelance Science Writer, who’s written many books involving …show more content…
Although I agree with e-cigarette smokers that they don’t contain thousands of harmful chemicals I still cannot accept the overall conclusion. Though they might not contain the thousands of chemicals as regular cigarettes, they still have some harmful substances. Francis J. Offerman an indoor Environmental Engineer who works with a team of scientist who provide the best air possible when it comes to your home, will explain the harmful vapors of e-cigarettes. In a paper written by Goniewicz et. al. of the largest study involving the emissions of an e-cigarette. “In this paper the chemical emissions of 11 chemicals, including carbonyl compounds, volatile organic compounds, tobacco specific nitrosamines, and heavy metals were measured from 12 different e-cigarettes. Each e-cigarette was tested three times” (Offermann 38-39). When smoking an e-cigarette it’s different from tobacco cigarette, e-cigs release a vapor not …show more content…
Goniewicz, Elena O. Lingas, and Peter Hajek, three professors who have learned the use of tobacco, joined with The Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol & other Drugs to help explain if the use of alternatives cigarettes will help reduce the urge of smoking or even stop completely. They have conducted an online survey regarding e-cigarette users asking them varies questions on their addiction to e-cigarettes. There was some surprising results: almost half of those who finished the survey said that e-cigarettes helped them quit smoking the average cigarette (Goniewicz, Lingas, and Hajek 2013). Though this might seem like it’s a reasonable evidence that e-cigarettes aren’t bad, but this survey was posted on an e-cigarette forum so it favors the use of e-cigarette. On the other side of the spectrum still concerning the survey said, “Twenty percent of those who indicated they were non-smokers at the time of initiating e-cigarette use reported that they now smoked conventional cigarettes” (Goniewicz, Lingas, and Hajek 2013). Those who never smoked a tobacco cigarette in the survey say that the use of e-cigarette introduced them into regular tobacco use. So the use of e-cigarettes can reduce the use of tobacco cigarettes, or can introduce you to the use to smoking.
Overall the use of e-cigarettes and vaping, has its pros and cons. E-cigarettes might not have all the chemicals as your conventional cigarette, but they still do pose a risk to your health. Whether they’re

Some people believe that they can be used like patches or gum to quit smoking and they are overall better than normal cigarettes. One study says, “Advocates claim that the devices which use battery power to aerosolize nicotine into a chemical propellant, offer significant harm reduction because they do not create the carcinogenic combustion products found in conventional paper cigarettes” (Chang). This study says that people for e-cigarettes believe that they are better because they do not contain the combustion products that paper cigarettes do. In contrast to that, the FDA says that even though they do not give away toxins associated with combustion like cigarettes, they do still give away chemicals that could possibly be a concern (Kuehn). Even though they are better than conventional cigarettes in the way of not containing combustion products, we do not know if they ‘offer significant harm reduction’ because there is still a vast amount of research that needs to be done on the juice, vapor, and more.…

Like many consumer products, the tobacco product industry differentiates brands based on differences in taste. The menthol additive is especially important because it reduces the harshness of tobacco smoke. Tobacco product companies have long used menthol as a way to reduce the negative sensations of tobacco use in new smokers as well as creating product lines for experienced smokers. For instance, even though kreteks (cigarettes with clove additives) are illegal in the U.S., tobacco companies still sell these products.…

A 2013 study showed that e-cigarettes can be used as a step towards quitting smoking, and that most e-cigarette users are current or prior smokers (“Tobacco Products : Regulating”). The American Medical Association has explained that e-cigarettes have the potential to be considered a “clean nicotine” product because they deliver nicotine to the user without the health risks of tobacco. Verified “clean nicotine” products include nicotine patches and gum, and are considered a safe way to help people quit smoking (Marlow). A study done in 2010 by researchers at Boston University’s School of Public Health showed that the toxicity level of electronic cigarettes was around the same as the toxicity levels of these existing “clean nicotine” products (Hemphill). Also, a clinical trial performed in New Zealand concluded that electronic cigarettes are at least as effective at helping people quit smoking as the currently used nicotine patches are (Glans).…
