I plan on taking the biosystems track because it allows me to fulfill pre-medicine requirements while also providing skills that I can apply to medical school and research. With this degree, I am able to take the pre-medicine courses UF recommends, such as Microbiology and Genetics, as technical electives. Being and engineering major can set me apart from other medical school applicants because in addition to basic science courses I will also be taking engineering courses. Taking engineering courses can provide me with problem solving skills and studying skills, since engineering has difficult course work. Developing skills in engineering can help me become a better researcher by fostering my creativity and ingenuity. Essentially, I plan on graduating with a degree in biological engineering because it allows me to gain the education I need to practice medicine while also teaching me engineering skills that I can apply to my …show more content…
I intend to stay in Florida, so my top two choices are the University of Florida Medical School or the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. Both schools are well known for being great research schools. The University of Florida Medical School would be a good option because it has the UF Health Shands Hospital, which is well known and considered one of the best hospitals in Florida. On the other hand, attending the University of Miami’s medical school would be a great opportunity because there is a large variety of hospitals I could gain clinical experience in. If I choose to go out of state, my goal would be to get into Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Vanderbilt is ideal for me because they have an Institute for Surgery and Engineering, which are the two fields I am interested in. [3] In general, my goal after undergraduate school is to get into a medical school, so I would still be content if I did not get into these schools as long as I get into a medical
