Personal Narrative: My Road Trip To New York City

Decent Essays
It was the middle of November, my family and I took a road trip to New York City.
As we arrived to the city, we had to wait a few minutes to cross the George Washington Bridge because there was a lot of traffic. After waiting for a while we drove across the bridge and as we made our way across I saw a lot of skyscrapers, including the New World Trade Center and the Empire State Building. We arrived to a place where we had to wait for more than an hour to get on a ferry boat that would take us to the Statue of Liberty. It was very cold and noisy because of the cars, people, and the waves of the Hudson River. After waiting for what seemed an eternity, we got on the ferry and made our way to the statue. We walked around for an hour or so

Growing up in Brooklyn, in the early 90’s was one of the best experiences in my life. I remember the ice cream trucks, corner stores, fire hydrates being opened for the kids especially when there was a block party but most of all, the unity of families and neighbors. Many people will say “Brooklyn, only the strong survive” and I have lived by that phrase my entire life. It showed me the beauty of living in one of the boroughs that makes up New York City and has taught me to be a strong person. It’s not made for the weak.…

My Visit to Albuquerque Vipassana Sangha I decided to take a trip to the Albuquerque Vipassana Sangha to study Buddhism for my religion experiential essay. On August 4, 2016 I found myself in a setting in which I never would have thought I would see because I was raised a Christian Baptist who was once taught that her religion was the only true and accurate religion. As the time for the meditation and dharma talk approached, I began feeling nervous and excited to try something new. As I exited the bus I turned down Rosemont Avenue and searched for the temple, I was met by a beautiful and long path.…

Brooklyn’s Trials and Tribulations Brooklyn was a girl I used to hang out with whenever I was in high school. She was the first person to introduce herself to me when I attended my new high school. She was a really good friend and was always nice to me and since I was new to the school, she made me feel like I wasn 't alone and had someone to talk to. We would play volleyball a lot and play her x-box whenever I went over to her house after school. She was kind of tall and slim, so when we played volleyball, she would normally beat me very bad because she was in better shape than I was.…

The old, revolting bus halted to a stop in front of my house where I got off and followed my everyday routine. This usually consisted of checking the mail and going inside to do the dishes before starting my homework, but today was different. Both of my parents greeted me at the door and said that we had to talk. My stomach dropped and immediately my mind raced through all of the worst possible situations. When they informed me of the news I was devastated, relieved, and happy all at the same time.…

On Friday September 11, 2015 I decided to take the number two (2) train from Prospect to Westside 34th Street, New York. It was 4:00pm and I just got off work and wanted to go to the city for the train ride. I waited approximately 10 minutes for the number 2 train to arrive and 2-4 minutes between every stop before arriving at my destination within 40 minutes. Traveling during rush hours is unappealing as there are frequent delays and the trains are most often crowded.…

The New York trip opened my eyes to how unique of a city it is in America. Considering I’ve never been to Times Square, I’ve only been to the Bronx for a Yankee game, this was really an eye-opening experience to me. On the trip I didn’t know many people for a variety of reason. I’m not in the Business LLC, and I commute unlike a majority of the people I was with. Nonetheless, I was able to meet new people, but I placed a heavy emphasis on the observation of everything around me in the city.…

I used to believe that your first time in New York City was the perfect opportunity to be whomever you want, eat whatever you want, and see whatever you want. I imagined my first experiences in the city that never sleeps to be something Carrie Bradshaw would write about and Serena Van Der Woodsen would be proud of. I pictured myself hailing taxis by doing that cool whistling thing with my fingers and eating at restaurants with only the finest of cuisines. I dreamed about strutting down Madison Ave. in oversized sunglasses, arms filled with shopping bags from Chanel, Gucci, Chloè, and Hermès.…

We got on the bus and headed towards the Eiffel tower. Suddenly the bus stopped and there was an announcement in French that we didn’t understand, and everyone got out of the buss except us.…

After a while, I began to feel thirsty, so I decided to grab a coffee at Starbucks, the fragrance of fresh coffee beans tempted me to enter the café and I’d heard a lot about it from my cousins who stayed abroad. The waitress suggested me to try out the Double Chocolate Frappe; the beverage came with my name on it. The quantity for the price they charged, seemed to be quite worthwhile, and enough to keep me going for the day. I decided to visit the Empire State Building, one of the most significant places in New York.…
