Personal Narrative: My Trip To Times Square

Improved Essays
The New York trip opened my eyes to how unique of a city it is in America. Considering I’ve never been to Times Square, I’ve only been to the Bronx for a Yankee game, this was really an eye-opening experience to me. On the trip I didn’t know many people for a variety of reason. I’m not in the Business LLC, and I commute unlike a majority of the people I was with. Nonetheless, I was able to meet new people, but I placed a heavy emphasis on the observation of everything around me in the city.
Waking up for the trip was less than pleasurable for me. I slept for maybe an hour that night because I had to work on a paper, and figured I’d have to leave from my house to be at the Bloomsburg Hospital around 4 AM anyways. Being an impatient person,

At one point a kid no older than thirteen years old was cussing out a security guard, probably because he stole from the store. I found that too be hysterical, and it points out the randomness of the city. I didn’t have much money on me to spend, which was a good thing because the stores are so gigantic which I never realized until actually going to Times Square. Visiting Trump Towers was also a notable part of the trip, and the beautiful architecture was the greatest part of the experience there. On a side note I believe he was in the building because he did his sorry statement, for the comments he made about women that night with a city behind him in the video, and he held a meeting with mayor Giuliani, and others that morning in New York. If that’s true, I’m mad because that would make it the second time I’ve been near Trump without seeing him, as I was unable to see him earlier in the year at one of his rallies because of the thousands of people there. Finally, I ended my day eating at a restaurant where the show, “The Big Bang Theory”, is filmed. The restaurant was terrible in my opinion, however I think it’s cool that so many so many TV shows have places in New York visible to the general public. For example, I saw the building of the David Letterman show which is one of my favorite talk shows. I’d love to come back sometime, and watch a live talk show

My childhood in New York City was very difficult for me. I grow up in a predominantly Hispanic Dominican decent neighborhood in the upper Manhattan area called Washington Heights. Washington Heights in the early 1990’s was the heart of the drug trade. At one point in the 1990’s it was considered one of the worst neighborhoods to raise a child. I remember in the news, the news anchor reported that New York City was recognized as the crime capital in the 1950's through the early 1990's.…

One experience that shaped my character as a person was my part-time job in high school. I worked as tour guide in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Being a tour guide pushes a person to be open minded and curious about other people. I remember having a tour group from New York City, and we had a great conversation when we were comparing our respective Chinatowns. The conversation had me continuously think of questions and reply to their question with an answer to the best of my ability.…

New York otherwise known as the “Big Apple” is home to approximately 19.7 million people. In a closer lense, New York City is home to 8.4 million people. Everytime I go to New York I always spot the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center. For seven summers I went to Camp Matoaka in Maine, each year I would return to the same smiling faces. These familiar faces were always close to my heart, however they were not always in reach.…

Our field trip to Chicago offered me a new way of seeing the city. I have been to Chicago multiple times, yet this trip offered me an experience I was not expecting. It offered me an insight to the darkness that covers the city and the beacons of light that try to shine through that darkness. It opened my eyes to those who are searching for a truth, a love and an acceptance and are finding it in so many different places; whether it is Jesus People USA, South East Friendship Center, Olive Branch, a Krishna Temple or an Islamic Mosque. In each of these places individuals are just trying to figure out where they belong and if they can find acceptance, but what each offers is entirely different.…

Growing up in Brooklyn, in the early 90’s was one of the best experiences in my life. I remember the ice cream trucks, corner stores, fire hydrates being opened for the kids especially when there was a block party but most of all, the unity of families and neighbors. Many people will say “Brooklyn, only the strong survive” and I have lived by that phrase my entire life. It showed me the beauty of living in one of the boroughs that makes up New York City and has taught me to be a strong person. It’s not made for the weak.…

The cultural plunge project is meant to expose myself to other cultures and their lives. For this specific purpose, I choose to go to Chinatown in downtown Los Angeles. I don’t have friends or acquaintances that are from China or that have Chinese heritage. In all honesty, I only considered Chinese culture in relation to food or restaurants. Apart from its Americanized food, I haven’t before exchanged thoughts and ideas with a person of Chinese descendancy.…

As I travel to and fro the Bronx campus every Wednesday, I always look forward to driving on the historic 108-years-old Queens Borough bridge; especially, on the return journey. Why? Driving on the outskirt of the bridge, gives a feeling of hanging on the side rail of the ship deck; wherefore, if I have made any incorrect maneuver, the tragedy would be devastating. The first week I drove on it, I was scared; as a result, I drove below the speed limit of 30 MPH, while admiring its medieval style architectural work, it’s such a great feeling. I thought of writing about this amazing bridge, but instead, chose to present a twenty-first contemporary art.…

I finally saw the the beautiful sun for the first time without having to bend my head back as far as I could since I had been in New York. It shone down brightly, warming my skin and glimmering off the glass of the skyscrapers in the near distance. I could finally feel the soft breeze wrap around me and not get deflected from the buildings. I watched the people from the city enter the park and watched as their city attitudes give way to the magical ambiance of the park. I closed my eyes and took it all in, and I could’ve stayed on top of that rock for…
