Personal Narrative: My Interview With Hailey

Over the past couple of days, I’ve had the opportunity to interview alumni of Tell City Jr. Sr High School, Hailey Carman. An alumnus is a graduate of Tell City, and Hailey graduated in the year of 2015-2016. Hailey has been involved with many of the extracurricular activities that our school has to offer. One of those is being involved with cross country and track. Hailey was a dedicated runner throughout high school and recalls that running taught her many life lessons. While interviewing Hailey she said “I’ve learned that you can not expect something great to happen on its own. “You really have to work hard towards your goal and believe in the work you put in. I’ve gain a lot of self-confidence through running because I’ve learned to better believe in what I can do to achieve what I want.” That statement right there shows how much of a determined runner Hailey was, and how she wouldn’t let anything get in the way of her success. I believe many athletes could learn from Hailey’s comment because it’s teaching student athletes to never give up on themselves. I’ve learned from Hailey, that in order to be a successful runner, you have to stay self-motivated. Self- motivation can be a hard task to follow, especially in a mental sport such as running. That means you have to keep a good mental attitude even when you are being forced to your limits. Hailey has taught me and many other fellow runners to never let failure get inside your mindset, or become negative when …show more content…
“I liked being able to to organize and plan events.” Hailey would have to come to the majority of the sporting events, hallway decorations, and make decisions for her class. Does that not show true marksmen, or what? Hailey would have to get through her tiresome sports practices, balance the worries of school, and social life all throughout her stressful senior

At some point in time in their development, most people encounter an adult figure, who instills a positive change in their lives. For me, that person was Cindy Scannella--my track and my cross country coach for my first two years of high school. With her unique approach to coaching, Coach Scannella not only gave me the confidence to flourish in the sport and lead my team, but she also gifted me with a love for running. This passion of mine as well as her continual support has carried me through the difficulties of my grandfather’s death, my parents’ divorce, and other strenuous circumstances including the end of her time as my coach. Her presence in my life has truly altered my life for the better.…

The aforementioned training regime was a necessary price to pay if I ever hoped to improve and outperform peers, and I stayed dedicated to it from the beginning. Because of this, I grew accustomed to the ring of the victory bell and the satisfying validation that came from it. However, after many years of relentless training and competition, what has taught me most is not the split-second touch of victory, but the long stretch of perpetual failure. At the age of sixteen my athletic improvement became halted without explanation in a sport in which the sole purpose is to outperform the athlete you had been in the race before.…

While the word success can have many different meanings, whatever its parameters are, similar traits are still needed to achieve any goal. Arguably the most important of these traits, for cadets and army officers, is motivation, the drive to accomplish a task. Throughout my years of running cross-country I have learned that the best athletes are those who value the reward of winning as being greater than any pain they endure. Whether the reward is respect, personal satisfaction, or even some terrible event in their past without a strong motivation many of my competitors are not willing to push themselves through the pain of running faster allowing me to beat them. Among the other skills needed for cadets and army officers is comprehension of…

As for myself, I’ve dealt with many of my own hardships whether it be personal, educational, or in extracurricular activities, that have helped shaped me into the person that I am today. A day in the life This week in class, I learned a multitude of new things including how to write this paper. Throughout my paper, we will explore all the new things I have learned through becoming a new college student, my first week of classes and reading the chapters from the introduction to psychology textbook. The start of a new journey Monday, November 21st was my first day as a new college student, I had no idea what to expect and living a little over forty-five minutes away, with class starting at six thirty, I thought I had better leave my house two hours early just in case traffic was bad. To my surprise, I arrived exactly forty-six minutes after leaving home, so I sat in my car and contemplated what the night was going to be like…
