While the word success can have many different meanings, whatever its parameters are, similar traits are still needed to achieve any goal. Arguably the most important of these traits, for cadets and army officers, is motivation, the drive to accomplish a task. Throughout my years of running cross-country I have learned that the best athletes are those who value the reward of winning as being greater than any pain they endure. Whether the reward is respect, personal satisfaction, or even some terrible event in their past without a strong motivation many of my competitors are not willing to push themselves through the pain of running faster allowing me to beat them.
