Personal Narrative: Lets Go West

“Lets Go West”

As a cheerleader I have been to many school football games before, but none of them compare to our first game this year. It was on a Thursday night, and the date was August 27th, 2015. The whole school had a new attitude going into this game. I could almost feel the excitement in the air. It was a feeling I have never felt before, and it was exhilarating. I am more than sure that this feeling came from our new coaching staff and all the hard work our boys put in this summer. As exciting as it was to watch the game, I was just as excited for the game to start.

Going into the game we were all were all extremely eager to see our football team play. The student section came with the most excitement I have ever seen them have in my life. I have also never seen that many students in our student section. They came dressed in ‘80s outfits. A lot of the

The clock ran out and the whole crowd went wild. There were students from West sliding out of the stands and trying to rush the field, and it really looked like a scene from a movie. Then the security guards stopped us and made us wait until North was off the field to run to our football team. When we ran to them it was a thrill, but the smell was horrible. All the football players were drenched in sweat, and that’s all you could smell while in the crowd. But no matter how bad they smelled, we were still hugging them all and congratulating them. Being in that crowd was a rush of enthusiasm and most of all, adrenaline.

I have been to NFL football games before, but not even those can compare to the feeling I had when our football team finally won. I am so happy I had the opportunity to be cheering the first varsity game that we have won my whole high school career. It was an amazing feeling and an amazing win. I hope there many more to come, this year and the

Eight-eighty-seven seventy-one,” Coach Morris said to me. “Look for the outside receivers and tell them to get out of bounds to stop the clock. If they don’t get out of bounds, hurry to the line and spike the ball!” After hearing those instructions from coach I trotted onto the field with 1:22 left in the Decorah football game. Since our defense held them on 4 straight downs we had a second chance and we were going to take advantage of it.…

As the national anthem ended we walked in a line hi-fiving the other team and we knew they could sense our electric energy. As we huddled together we were all fired up, screaming, yelling, and ensuring we knew defeat wasn't a possibility, we took our formation and waited for the starting whistle. I walked back to my position, standing around mid-field on the right side, firing up the crowd on…

We were so far from the field you could barely see the players and what they were doing without binoculars. It was a game where little mistakes could be made and a loss could send us home for good. I was slightly nervous, but I enjoy the spotlight, especially as an underdog. Standing there on the street, I stood staring up to a hundred giant football players walking by me. As I held the rope that the football players walked through, I stretched out my hand to try and high five as many of them as I could. One… two…three…twenty-seven…twenty-eight…twenty-nine! Each one of them pranced by while the drum line marched them on to the beat of the fight song. Standing there looking up at the enormous football players, I avidly wondered what it would be like to walk through this crowd to go play at Highlander Stadium.…

It was only one year ago on this day that I had suffered my most recent and hopefully final concussion. Our football team was playing the number three-ranked team in state for our seventh and extremely important game of the season. As anyone who lives in Chicago knows, October can be a mild month for fall or an extremely cold month, which my princess girlfriend absolutely hates. Unfortunately last year was one of the coldest Octobers we have ever had, breaking the record, which was previously held in 1982. Kickoff was minutes away…
