So – before we ever started dating – Kory went above and beyond. He met my mom’s entire family, had dinner with us, drank with us, went to Country bars with us and danced with me. My aunt and uncle, Crystal and Chris, sat me down after one such dinner and told me, “He likes you. No one does all this for another person if they don’t want to be there. You can’t let him go.” But ‘go’ he did. He went back to Missouri on black Friday 2012 and we agreed that we simply couldn’t do a long distance relationship.
We tried to remain just friends and even dated other people but after about 6 months, we couldn’t not be together, so I said “we’re dating now” and that was that. I think our relationship was exactly what we needed when we got together. I was in Houston finishing my undergrad, Kory was in Missouri trying to make a name for himself in the Air Force; we needed a certain level of independence to be great for one another. We spent 2 years this way, traveling back and forth on our time off to see each other, finding time to talk or text, Kory even got me playing Diablo III as a way to spend time together. It was hard.
