Personal Narrative-Charge Nurse

Approximately two months after my arrival at the clinic, my trainer/charge nurse decided to leave. Since there were only two nurses running the clinic with occasional help from a third nurse from a separate department, I automatically became the new trainer/charge nurse. Once thrown into that position, I promised God sincerely that with the help of the Holy Spirit I would never treat my new trainees the way I was treated. I promised God that with his help I would be the best charge nurse they had ever encountered. True to my promise, I did just that. There were times that the nurse manager wanted to check them off on skills that I knew that they were not yet comfortable with at that point in time, and I would quickly do the task or procedure and quickly make excuses that the patient needed immediate attention. Finally, these nurses became fully competent and was able to take care of the patients and successfully run the clinic. Finally, i felt like I could relax and enjoy my work experience now that there were three competent nurses to run the clinic. To my dismay and horror, these same nurses that I exhibited the patients of job to train and protect, i found out was undermining me. They tried to give the impression that I was incompetent, they began to gossip about me to all the powers that be in the clinic. There were times that the clinic was filled with patients and they would disappear either to go and smoke or they would be found in someone’s office just relaxing and talking. They were so confident that they had the ultimate hook up that they carelessly disregarded their responsibility as a nurse. Afterall; who was going to fire them? All the supervisor were their friends. What they did not know however; is that I had the hook up with the kings of king and
