Personal Narrative: My Role In A Hospital

Monday, September 21st: My role in clinical today was clinic manager. This role is responsible for helping Mrs. Lutz in running the clinic. The first task of the day was to test the glucose meter to make sure that it is calibrated correctly. At first the glucose meters were not reading correctly. Every meter said error so we determined that it must be because it was cold in the room, and the meters were cold. Regardless of what the reason was, the meters started to work. The other main task we had to do was to put out the signs to let people know that the clinic was open. Once we did that, we were ready to accept clients in the clinic. Our first client was a woman who had a multitude of problems. Her main concern was that she was feeling bad and believed she was having high blood pressure. We checked her blood pressure and it was very high. In her right arm it was around 230 over one …show more content…
Mrs. Lutz contacted an organization called Triad Health Project to help her get support in navigating her HIV and to gain emotional support. When the client discovered that the organization was Triad Health Project, she immediately shut down and wanted nothing to do with it. We asked some follow up questions to determine why and from what I gathered, her perception is that that organization suggested that she leave her (as she says) “crazy husband.” We decided together that she could either give them another try, or not, that it was up to her what to do when they called her. As we continued to discuss her support system, I asked her what gave her hope and she said her family. Unfortunately, for the client, her family mostly wants nothing to do with her because of her many problems. I sincerely hope that our client will give Triad Health Project another chance because I know they can provide her with the emotional support and stability that her family is unable to

My day started a bit off, I had an emergency that morning that made me run a bit late for clinical. This made me miss some important information such as, how nurses in NCBH hand over to the next shift, but aside that, I had a wonderful day working with nurse Mrs. Osei. She welcomes me by introducing herself, which I responded likewise. She took me with her to do her morning rounds and administer medication to her assigned patient. After we were done with her morning medication, I went to one of her patient whom I was assign to by Mrs. Natasha to perform mini mental survey and general assessment on the patients.…

Additionally, her goal of continuing education had to be put on hold. There is concern over the children’s anger towards the other parent as well as a lack of motivation with school work. In addition, the children are upset because they cannot participate in activities with their friends as before.…

I admired the nurse that took care of my aunt up to this day and hold them in high respect. I invested hours in their office whenever I visited my aunt in the moments of her surgery or to pick up her medicines. Few years later, I had been volunteering at a local hospital, this made me fully realize the hard work nurses put in their work line. My overall experience with the nurses that I encountered was positive. In my senior of high school, I took a course on health and human anatomy.…

As I looked around at the blank white walls surrounding me, my anxiety only grew. Why am I here? The question haunted my mind as my solid white shoes tapped softly on the monotonously grey floors. My green eyes landed back on the paper in my hand, reading the words again. Patient 7539, please report to clinical area 3 for a checkup at 6:30am.…

The person I decided to interview was Kristen McKenna, a registered nurse. I interviewed her over the phone since she resides in Maryland. I chose to interview her since she has the profession that resembled a physician assistant the most in comparison to others I could have contacted, plus I know her parents fairly well and knew I could easily get an interview with her. All of my contacts live in other states so unfortunately it was not possible for me to schedule a meeting with any of them. The specific questions I prepared were essentially the ones that were provided in the “Possible Questions to Ask During the Information Interview” section.…

The smell of rubbing alcohol makes me feel at home, as does the white floors that squeaked when I press my shoes hard enough. I would learn more about the lives of each individual every time I visited, and hear the amazing stories the families had to share.…

A group of over twenty students from different walks of life sit in a circle around a large pieced-together table in a residence hall lounge. They identify as domestic or international, male, female or non-gendered, heterosexual or LGBTQ+, religious or without religion, able or disabled, as one race or of many, and share one goal: to eat one last feast as one large community. I had the wonderful privilege of working for these students. Attending this special occasion with them gave me a picture of the impact a university setting has on a student population. In this single moment, at the end of my first full year as a resident assistant, I knew the path to becoming a professional in higher education was for me.…

Results Interview #1 I spoke with Tanya Mace for a long period of time to decide what I wanted to do I was really planning on doing my associates in nursing but after speaking to Mrs. Mace I have come to the conclusion that I am going to do the LPN (licensed practical nursing) program and decide from there if I get accepted into the ADN in program in august I am going to hold off until I finish the LPN program then maybe do the bridge program for my RN (registered nursing).I chose to speak with Mrs. Mace because she is my academic advisor and she works with students to help them make the best decisions for their career paths. Interview #2 In my second interview I spoke to several formal and current students to see if what Mrs. Mace had told me was true. After several of the formal students told me that they had tried the R.N program first and found it very hard to go straight into the nursing program and not doing the LPN program first, and not working in the field, they felt like they were always behind the rest of the students who had previous experience.…
