Personal Development Plan “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more you are a leader” John Quincy Adams
My Life Purpose I attend Brigham Young University Idaho for two reasons, to become a true disciple of Christ, and also become a leader. Becoming a disciple of Christ is not always a simple as it seems, you must be will to allow yourself to grow. Becoming a good leader requires self reflection, it’s a learning process. I have come to the realization that being both a disciple of Christ and also becoming a leader goes hand in hand with one another. In order to truly learn how to lead one must know how to follow. From my religion classes, and scripture study, I have learned to have faith vs. fear. In

I’m competing against thousands of other cadet’s nationwide for an active duty slot. I figured that being a female, and being Hispanic that I might have an advantage. With the counsel of Major Wilson I learned that my chances of achieving an active duty slot are very slim. My GPA is low it’s sitting at a 3.0 and my physical fitness test score is low sitting at a 272.
I have participated in two color guard ceremonies; I have also participated in ranger challenge and tested out of Spanish 101 In order to acquire more OML points to better my chances of achieving an active duty slot. My short term goals are to earn at least two more OML points this upcoming spring semester. I plan on accomplishing this goal by taking COMM 102, writing an article for the school news paper, and also by participating in a sport on campus.
My other Short term goals include raising my GPA and physical fitness test by the end of the spring semester. After this semester my GPA should raise slightly. Next semester I plan to acquire a tutor for every class so that I can have straight A’s. I’m currently a B+ average student, I feel that if I meet with a tutor at least once a week to go over the required material for the class, I will have a better grasp of the information and receive better

I plan on only donating 2-4 times a month verses the 8 that I do now. A long term goal I have is to learn how to communicate with others. The main reason for me taking COMM 102 class next semester is so that I can become more comfortable speaking and presenting in front of large groups of people. I feel that communication skills are an attribute that every great officer should have. My goals are all obtainable some may take longer than others but as I continue to work hard to accomplish these goals I know I will grow as a person and hopefully become a great leader. In an interview I had earlier this semester with Lieutenant Colonel Slemp, I relayed to him that I wanted to become a great leader one day. He told me that great leaders are few, but that he would not allow me to commission if he didn’t feel I was ready to lead. These are words that push me every day to accomplishing my goals and allowing me to getting one step closer to becoming a leader in the U.S.
