Reflective Essay On Being A Leader

Being a leader is not an easy job. You have to put everybody before yourself. Leadership is more than just leading people in the right direction. Being leader doesn’t mean being the boss of everybody, that’s a completely different thing. Leading is actually working with the people and going through everything together, you don’t watch them do everything while you tell them what to do. On the other hand, being a boss is you telling people what to do and sitting back and watching them do it by themselves and that’s not good. I remember being a leader in a bunch of class projects. I would always be scared to be chosen leader because i was afraid i wouldn’t do a good job. The first time i was leader was in high school, freshman year, we were doing …show more content…
I fell into depression by the end of April 2015. I didn’t know i had fallen into depression, i was just noticing i wasn’t eating as much as i usually do, i was sleeping a lot more, and i had lost a lot of weight. During the summer of 2015, i was on social media and i came across an old friend, Michal, who i had met in 2012. So i starting following him on social media and within an hour he messaged me and asked me if he knew me from somewhere. It had been like 3 years since we last seen or talked to each other so i’m pretty sure we both had physically changed so we didn’t look the same anymore. So i answered and i explained, and we started talking again just like old times. A couple months went by and he started noticing a change in me and so he asked me if anything was wrong and i told him what had happened that April of 2015. He asked me if i had any symptoms, or seen any kind of change and i said yeah so i explained. He then suspected depression. I agreed with him after doing research and he then told me, “don’t worry you’re not alone i’m here for you no matter what, we will get through this together”. It was a great feeling to have him as a support system. Even though I’m still dealing with it, i’ve found ways to deal with it through the help of Michal. It comes and goes and sometimes it’s stronger than the previous. It has affected me in school and family wise but i manage to do my best in both situations. It’s …show more content…

The four pillars of NHS, service, scholarship, leadership, and character, mean a lot to me. Some of them relate to me more than others, but all play a huge part in NHS. To me, I think being a part of NHS would mean being able to learn and become a more responsible, smarter, helpful leader.…

From someone not under the responsibility of a leadership role, it may seem like a wonderful job, since they can escape from the usual workload that a non-leader has to put up with, and have authority over others. Yet, they tend to overlook the amount of dedication and self-evaluation that a leader has to go through in order for their group to succeed. One must better and uphold themselves to a high standard in order to be an efficient leader, and not for power alone. They must have a wide knowledge of their position and patience to help others in case an issue or situation arises. When things go wrong, the leader, not the group, is blamed, and often is the one that pays for the consequences that their peers have done under their watch.…

I am an RA at Northern Kentucky University. As an RA, I help students transition to college and help them understand how to live on their own away from parents. It is my duty to enforce University Housing policy- to ensure the safety of students plus maintain a positive learning environment. As an RA, I have developed a unique set of skills because I get to work with students to ensure they are receiving a full well rounded college experience while enforcing rules that some tend to break. This can be challenging because I still have to live with them unlike police; for example, they get to go home after they interact with someone so they don’t have to deal with it when their job is over.…

The Accidental Leader: What to Do When You’re Suddenly in Charge Being a leader can happen to any one of us at any time. When we are given the role of being a leader it often paints a different image of what we look like to others based on the fact that we are in charge. We never know when a situation will arise that will call us to step up to the challenge of leading a group of a few people or a whole division of a company. The word leader can often make seem overwhelming to a lot of people but after reading Harvey Robbins’s and Michael Finley’s The Accidental Leader you no longer have to question what to do when you’re suddenly in charge. I would’ve never thought reading book on leadership would ever be helpful, after all I always thought leadership came from learning from experience, not from a book.…

This, in turn I had a fruitful time during those three years, which significantly enriched my knowledge and broadened my horizon. While…
