Essay On Pastoral Interview

For my pastoral interview, I choose to interview the Senior Pastor of Huntington Central Church (Disciples of Christ) Rev. Jacque Parlato. I started the interview by asking Pastor Jacque to describe her call to ministry. More precisely I asked her to describe her calling from the time she first received it up until now. During this question Pastor Jacque began by telling me about her background and early life. She informed me that she was born and raised in Santiago California, to parents that she described as people who didn’t have everything put together. As a child, Pastor Jacque said that she did anything and everything to go to church, whether she had to go with friends, neighbors, on a bus, or even walked; she did everything she could to have the opportunity to worship along others in …show more content…
Pastor Jacque said that she finds her greatest strength in ministry in Pastoral Care. She said that she loved doing visitation with her church members, and that she felt very confident during hospital visitation and when she helped members of her congregation cope with loss. From here Pastor Jacque described the aspect of ministry she finds her greatest weakness in, and that is administration. As she went on to explain this to me, she explained that Pastoral administration was not required at LTS, and was not a major focus there. After graduating and still being a part of LTS she has brought this up with the administrators there. She also gave me different situations of administration situations I will face, and advice on how to approach dealing with them. After discussing her strengths and weaknesses pastor Jacque informed me that her favorite aspect of Pastoral ministry was bringing out the talents of those she serves with, and helping others discern their

Ephesians 4:11-12 states, “And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;”. Pastors, evangelists and teachers are called to equip others, therefore we should focus on the most valuable and faithful individuals; those that show promise of long-term, meaningful commitment to the ministry of the Lord (Wilkinson, 369). Wilkinson notes that Christ had to steward His time and energies to maximize the growth of the Kingdom (Wilkinson, 369). If some of our students show a deeper commitment, then we should test their resolve. If they seem…

I was a student pastor for almost three years. Like most ministry areas, you must be able to multi-task and manage different initiatives at the same time. Being effective sometimes means that you have to switch to-and-from a number of different projects, and ultimately to be able to finish them. When emergencies and unforeseen circumstances occur, this can cause a lot of confusion and panic; being able to stay calm and ad-dress these situations, in a timely and appropriate manner is vital in a ministry…

As I was reading this article I was angry and felt as if i would not agree with anything said, however, once I regarded the time period and allowed myself to be open to the opinions of others, I began to see some similarities. They were few, but similarities nonetheless. I agree with Macarthur in the aspect of some psychologists disregarding the ability to be assisted by prayer, reading the Bible and meditation with God. I believe that those things are important and vital to finding peace and well as strength through mental and emotional difficulties. Practicing “Christian” Psychologists should never advise against them or promote activity that go against Biblical teaching.…

This was a really good reminder for me as I considered the place of spirituality in professionalism. If I do not remember this as a Christian helper, am I really satisfying God and myself with what I do? Without having a value in the meaning of life it would be so easy to get dragged down and disheartened by the unsuccessful encounters. Although with it, I will be able to see a glimpse of good in the tough time. Pastors must be servant-leaders and not lord it over their flock. Gregory presents important points with much wisdom that pastors would do well to follow as an example. There are some (many) who should not be in pastoral ministry because they lead their flock astray. This is due to the fact that there are pastors who do not have sound doctrine which leads to wolves invading the flock. One must be called into pastoral ministry by God in order to do this important work.…
