Maxim 5 Analysis

I do agree that as stated in “Maxim 5” in Chapter 11 of The Seven Laws of the Learner, that, “Equipping should focus more intensely on the most committed.” Wilkerson points out that, “One of the most crucial characteristics of equippers is that they carefully select the people they are going to equip. The Lord knew the apostles for a period of time before he selected them. Effective equippers focus their resources on the most faithful candidates who demonstrate the most promise for long-term and meaningful ministry for the Lord” (Wilkinson, 369). This is a slow building process that may take years to see to fruition. Ephesians 4:11-12 states, “And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;”. Pastors, evangelists and teachers are called to equip others, therefore we should focus on the most valuable and faithful individuals; those that show promise of long-term, meaningful commitment to the ministry of the Lord (Wilkinson, 369). Wilkinson notes that Christ had to steward His time and energies to maximize the growth of the Kingdom (Wilkinson, 369).
