In this world of science and technology, society has made much progress in the last 20 years. The mobile phone is a good example of this change. Mobile phones are now the most widespread communication device replacing fixed line phones, and their number is increasing dramatically every year. This essay will outline the major changes in mobile phone design and network availability during the last two decades and the advantages of this development. In addition, this essay will discuss the disadvantages of using mobile phones.

Another useful tool in advanced developed mobiles is to share items with others by Bluetooth or infrared devices, again using a phone as a kind of computer. A final point is that they are clearly a sign of status. Most people like to buy the latest model of cell phone just to give the image of being successful.
Although there are clearly many positive effects of mobile phones, they can also have a negative impact on our lives. For example, people may have health issues “caused by microwaves emitted by mobile phones which may be very dangerous for humans, causing fatal diseases in the brain” (BBC, 2010, online). This microwave radiation created by mobile phones may even cause infertility in men. Furthermore, there are safety concerns. It is clear that many road accidents occur because people talk on their phones while driving and cannot concentrate fully on the road. According to the BBC (2010, online) 28% of road accidents are caused because of drivers talking or texting on their mobile phones. A third point is that the usage of mobile phones sometimes creates a disturbance in libraries, classrooms, boardrooms and even in hospitals and many people think phones should be banned from such places.
