Evidence for this includes contents from his stomach. When extracted, it reveals that he had eaten a large last meal. If he had know sooner that people were after him, he would not have taken to the time to sit down and cook the meal; and a big meal also weighs heavily in the stomach, making it harder to move. Otzi also had injuries on his hand, a sharp object possibly a flint tip spear, or dagger, was used to make the cuts. This caused so much damage to the thumb that it damaged the bone as well.…
In September of 1991 a 5,300 year old mummy was found on the Ötztal Alps of the Austrian and Italian border. The article "Earliest People" discusses differences between the Kiffian and the Tenerians. For example, in the article the Kiffians were very tall and stronger because they would always hunt food with protein. The Tenerians were alot shorter and less athletic because they lived 1,000 years later, with not alot of food. When the Kiffians were buried, they would be tied in sacs with their bodies bent over. The name “GATTACA” is composed entirely of the letters found in the biological macromolecule DNA. DNA is made up of four letters: G (Guanine), A (Adenine), T (Thymine), and C (Cytosine). The letters are arranged in the molecule in a very specific way, with A only reacting with T (and vice versa) and G only reacting with C (and vice versa). The biological structure in Jerome’s apartment resembles a DNA strand, also known as a double helix.…
The methodology that use LatCrit to achieve its goal is narrative: “One of the goals of CRT and LatCrit has been to challenge and add context to racialized histories. This particular CRT/LatCrit intervention has often been achieved through narrative methodology.” (Barnes, 2011) In this way the stories of several circumstances of discrimination can be understand from the perspective of Latina/o people. In addition to this, what is interesting is that LatCrit Scholars are more open to new ways of expressing research, such as drama and image (Johnson, 2004).…
Along the south coast of Peru in the 3rd – 5th century CE, people from area drew the outlines of animals, plants, and geometric shapes into the sand, now known as the Nazca geoglyphs. Unlike most art of the time, these were on a monumental scale as some were 400+ feet long and straight lines were continuous for 1,000+ feet, stopping at a pile of stones. This pile of stones is important because it links to a ritual of Peruvians still in use today – ceremonial walking. Just as modern ceremonial walkers, the people who created these geoglyphs, “earth writings,” may have later followed the paths they created in the sand, driving the sand further to emphasize the figures drawn.…
Another color that Otsuka uses throughout her book is black, which is commonly used in Japanese culture to symbolize mystery, desolation, and in some cases, destruction. She often mentions the color black to describe the barracks in the internment camps, symbolizing that these camps are unwanted and therefore are isolated away from American society. The trip to the internment camps was humiliating, long, and exhausting for the Japanese. During the first night of internment, the boy looks outside of the window and observes “the endless rows of black barracks all lined up in the sand. In the distance, [there was] a wide empty field where nothing but sagebrush grew, [and] then the fence and the high wooden towers” (51).…
