Otzi Research Paper

In September of 1991 a 5,300 year old mummy was found on the Ötztal Alps of the Austrian and Italian border. The evidence found on Otzi's body has lead to the belief that he had been trespassing on tribal land of another clan when he was attacked and shot in the back. His personal belongings, body, and Dna has lead to crucial evidence about his culture and the mystery of his death.
Researcher Dr. Eduard Egarter Vigl, Head of Conservation of the Iceman, and his team extensively researched the body. An arrowhead lodged in his back, hitting a main artery with the arrow shaft missing had been the cause of death. The shot was taken by a skilled archer of the clan. Scientists simulated the shot and found the shooter used a 24” arrow and was 30 yards away with a 50 pound draw weight. There was evidence of a physical altercation that lead to the wounds on his body. Unidentified blood on Otzi’s clothing confirmed this. Physical interaction was made to hold the iceman as the

As Otzi reached his final moments of life he carried a copper axe, unfinished box and arrows, flint dagger, and an assortment of herbs. The flint dagger was found clutched tightly in his hand. The copper axe signified great power and status meaning Otzi was an important man of his time. The unfinished bow and arrows proved Otzi was not expecting the attack. He had been hunting or simply taking a stroll. The pollen in his lungs suggests he had been going up and down the mountain. As if he was hunting down an animal or left something and went back to retrieve it. The herbs showed that in case of an emergency he could heal himself. It would also mean he had known he had a long journey ahead and wouldn’t be able to head home if an emergency were to occur. In Otzi’s stomach they found a mix of meats and different vegetables meaning he lived in a time where humans were just beginning to

These cuts were sustained some time before his death, most likely caused from an earlier confrontation. He also did not have a working bow and arrow. The bow was not completed, and there were only two finished arrows in the quiver. With this information we can infer that Otzi was first attacked after he finished his meal, maybe he went out for a walk after lunch, or dinner. He must have been far from the village when he was first attacked and was unable to get help or gather better supplies for defending himself.…

Otzi was discovered in 1991, and became very famous since he was buried in the Neolithic era, causing many scientists to study his lifestyle and characteristics. Otzi was a 5’5” tall man who was probably in his mid-forties when he died, and was found many thousands of years after his death, preserved in the mountainous area where he was discovered. His bones indicated that Otzi lived most of his life in the steep, cold mountains, and there were traces of arsenic in his hair, which suggested that he had contact with the smelting of copper. He had a long gash in his hand points, a flint arrow that was stuck in his back, and had a severed artery, so Otzi did not die from natural causes. Although the cause of his death is known, not much about the reasons for why he was killed is…

I found this Yakudoshi party fun and very informative celebration (not to mention the great meal my wife and I had). I had an idea of the different types or the variety of food the Japanese culture has to offer, however, I think the most valuable lessons here were learning about the culture. I was fortunate enough to hear how the older generation and the younger generation view the practice of Yakudoshi, compare their views on food, hear and learn about some Japanese etiquettes (especially in the use of chopsticks as I described it in the discussion experience below), and hear their views on interracial marriage. Although the young Japanese couple had a hard time convincing their children to consume some of their meal, watching the young…

When it’s time for my break from classes, my friends and I always discuss what we are going to eat for lunch, most of my friends wants to go to Genki sushi, which is expensive and not within my budget.
