Christ Figures in literature commonly perform a number of miracles, which their acolytes once viewed as infeasible. McMurphy, the Christ Figure in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. is placed on a hospital ward brimming with hopeless patients under the control of an authoritarian nurse. All of the patients on the ward presume that Mcmurphy is out of his mind when he declares that he is going to “break” Nurse Ratched. From the most popular book throughout the world comes one of the most commonly known stories in history. One certainly does not have to be a Christian to know or even be familiar with the story Jesus Christ’s Passion, Death and Resurrection. In “Killing Jesus”, Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard give the reader an inside look of what the life of Jesus was like leading up to and during these historic events, as well as the culture and setting of this time period. The audience reading “Killing Jesus” would more than likely classify the book to be more of an informative and historical piece, as oppose to being theological as the Bible is.…

In “Film as Art and Psychology: Cool Hand Luke as Exemplar," Frank Barron employs a metaphorical comparison between religion and movies to claim that Cool Hand Luke is “about the Passion and Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ” (102). He substantiates his claim with in-depth mise-en- scène analysis, which does make Barron’s argument convincing, but to a certain extent. Barron highlights how Lucas Jackson’s figure movement and expressions symbolize that of Jesus Christ. For example, when he says “Luke is [seen] repeatedly stretching his arms akimbo, spread-eagled so that his body is like a cross” (102) after doing the unthinkable, eating fifty eggs. I do agree with Barron that Luke’s actions signify that of Christ; however the author focuses…

When Luke lays down after eating them, he lays his arms out which can look like an image of a cross. Also, at the end of the film when the image zooms out, two roads cross, and form an image that can be looked at like a cross. In the first chapter of God’s Many-Splendored Image, the theme of freedom is obvious because that is the title of the chapter. Being free implies that we are like God, and God does not have a limitation of freedom, so we don’t either. On the same note, mental/spiritual freedom turns out to be more valuable than the physical that most adore. Human freedom does allow us to choose, due to the fact that we are divine beings made in God’s image, and that we can determine the mental happenings in a hard situation. Harrison starts out by conversing about how people wondered how much freedom they really had.…

A Christ figure, or a Christ-Image is an archetype that authors can use to make connections with the character(s) in the story along with the biblical Jesus. In other words a Christ Figure is a holy character who can be compared to Jesus, or other holy figures. In the beginning of A Worn Path the author already makes comparisons to why Phoenix is a Christ figure. From her name, Phoenix Jackson, there are already clues that represent a Christ figure, for example with her name being Phoenix that alone represents resurrection. In the Bible it speaks about how Jesus resurrected from the dead, which is the exact same thing that a Phoenix does.…

Christ figures are displayed throughout literary works all the time and they help create a deeper and symbolic meaning to the story. An example of a Christ figure is in the movie Seven Pounds, where the character Ben Thomas devotes his life to helping others with illnesses. Some similarities that I found Ben shared with Christ include: 1)Ben Thomas is in agony because he regrets causing the accident that killed innocent people. 2)Ben is self-sacrificing because he helps the terminally ill and other people who actually deserve help. He donates bone marrow to a small boy and donates one of his kidneys to and older woman.…

Throughout history they were many Christ like figures. In the novel Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding in 1954 there is one. The story is about a group of English boys stranded on an uninhabited island and their attempt to govern themselves. Among these boys is Simon. Simon is a very unusual character, and in some sense, the only “well behaved and good” character on the island.…

Perhaps the best example that can be given to prove Simon is a Christ-figure is through his actions seen in the novel. Some of Simon’s smallest and simplest actions add up and relate to simple actions done by Jesus. It is known that Jesus was always very good with children. There are many pictures of him being surrounded by children and helping them. When Simon walks pass the little ones struggling to reach for berries, he does not even think twice before stopping and helping them gather food for the others: “Simon found for them the fruit they could not reached . . .…

Throughout the years the “Passion of the Christ” movies have been used to tell the story about Christ’s death and resurrection. Then in 2004 Mel Gibson made his version of the movie and as I like to say brought it in to the 21st century with updated graphics, violence, and blood. The combination of images, faith, and history this film truly was like no other Passion of Christ movie ever done. The Passion of the Christ is a serious and deep piece of cinematography, it not just show us how much pain one man went through for us but it celebrates for the unbeliever the triumph of humanity over an absolute brutality and through this movie for all the believers of the Christian faith this movie has become a powerful reminder that we still need to…
