Throughout history they were many Christ like figures. In the novel Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding in 1954 there is one. The story is about a group of English boys stranded on an uninhabited island and their attempt to govern themselves. Among these boys is Simon. Simon is a very unusual character, and in some sense, the only “well behaved and good” character on the island. He is willing to work for the good of the community and represents a natural goodness. Simon has many Christ like attributes, which would prove he is a Christ like figure in Lord of the Flies who, it is said that a Christ like figure is anyone “who evidences saintliness, selflessness, and undiscriminating love for his fellow creatures” (Kruger 3).

One of the firSimon does that depicts a Christ-like figure, is found in chapter 3 when he helps the littluns reach for their fruit, “ Simon found for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands. When he had satisfied them he paused and looked round. The littluns watched him inscrutable over double handfuls of ripe fruit.”(Golding 56). “A nice image of selfless caring, but also an observance of Christs injunction to his apostle Simon Peter. (Kruger 3). When Simon sees the littluns, he goes over to them and grabs the fruit they have been trying to get from the tree, that is an attribute of a Christ like figure because not only was what he did a nice gesture, but it is an observance to what Jesus has done for his people. Simon, doesn't say one word to them, after he finished helping them the children stare at him in amazement. . While there, Simon was calm and enjoyed the solitude of his companionship. But did Simon have to do this? No he did not, it was a selfless caring act of kindness. In life, when people act spirituality and are to themselves they often resemble something. We only just met Simon and he already is showing us that he is something

Carl Jung defines a persona as a different, modified version of an individual that helps one adapt to “the different roles [they] play in life.” He believes that the persona is something that is ever-changing, but is separate from the true personality of said individual. William Golding creates an interestingly dystopian tale showcasing the very worst of humanity in Lord of the Flies, a novel about a crowd of young boys who end up stranded on a deserted island. Roger, one of these boys, demonstrates Jung’s example of what a persona is. Roger’s true persona emerges over the course of the novel: from the way he is described initially, to his tentative rock-throwing, and finally his outright physical torture.…

Simon’s actions, thoughts, and dialogue parallel Jesus in a multitude of ways. To begin, Simon’s behaviors connect him to being both a prophet and a Jesus figure. Simon cares for Piggy and the littluns, and, in fact, he “shoved a piece of meat over the rocks to Piggy” and in doing so enrages Jack (Golding 74). Simon, sensitive to the needs of others, generously helps Piggy after he is denied meat. In addition to aiding Piggy, Simon looks out for the…

The 1954 novel Lord of the Flies encompasses the aftermath of World War 2 and draws heavy parallels to a post-World War 2. Written by Robert Golding, the novel is set on a dystopian island and illustrates that with the absence societal responsibilities, civilization degrades into fear and chaos by Jack’s dictatorial reign over the island. His rise to power originates through his evident denial of taking on his societal responsibilities. Naturally, human nature objectifies the strong and turns to them for guidance, Jack manipulates the others into sacrificing their freedom and sense of identity with his appeal to their needs of food and security. In turn, savagery and chaos ensue as everyone begins to blindly follow and conform to his ideologies.…

An example of a Christ figure is in the movie Seven Pounds, where the character Ben Thomas devotes his life to helping others with illnesses. Some similarities that I found Ben shared with Christ include: 1)Ben Thomas is in agony because he regrets causing the accident that killed innocent people. 2)Ben is self-sacrificing because he helps the terminally ill and other people who actually deserve help. He donates bone marrow to a small boy and donates one of his kidneys to and older woman. He also helps a woman get away from her abusive boyfriend and gives her his house so she can be sure that her boyfriend won’t find her.…
