Oakes Elementary School: Reflective Report

Tara Steiner has been a Title I Teacher in Oakes for the past 15 years. She has accommodated, molded, and reinvented a Title I program that truly meets the needs of as many children as possible. Even under the constraints of Target Assistance programming, she was able to reconfigure her schedule and provide interventions for more children than in years past. These interventions were all research-based, incorporated proven and effective instructional practices, and produced data to help us make continuous instructional decisions for programming. Without her involvement, understanding, and leadership it would have been impossible to run a highly effective RtI program.
Oakes Elementary School invested thousands of dollars into providing PD and training with Dr. Wayne Callender in the area of MTSS. Although we felt that our RtI program was working well for us, we also believe that we can always do better. Tara, along with five of her colleagues, attended a year-long

Mrs. Steiner spent the 2016-2017 school year leading this process. It was a year of looking at our school and our programming through the lens of a data guru and using that data to determine areas of strength and weakness. This expanded her knowledge and focus from the few targeted students to include all our students, which in turn has set our school down the path of successful intervention and instruction for ALL students and teachers. Once our team identified our schoolwide goals, Tara was tasked with researching what instructional strategies and programs would best fit our needs. She did an excellent job in the forefront of this process and the team culture in this transition has exploded for our elementary school. All our teachers now understand that ALL our students belong to each and every individual teacher and each of us takes responsibility for student
