After observing the large amount of media I use each day, I am now wondering how many times unintentional media has influenced me. For example, I know I have bought products that were advertised on the side of a YouTube video that I was watching. Looking at the three films that covered some degree of adapting or questioned culture and changes in the norm. I was able to see the full depth of transition and cultural identity that Japan had at the moment. Through these three movies and especially the ones set during World war two I was able to see the Japan trying to grow to fit a new world with new ideas and standards. It was also clear to see the different expectations and realities that all the different players were seeing or working with. Starting off looking at Hiroshima and a Bridge to the Sun, both of these films really led me to see a Japan that was holding on to its traditions and values while failing to see how it was hurting itself.…

    • What information did you not know before? I actually did know some of these items, or at least the terms, previously but not in the sense that they were presented to us this week. I was familiar with vertices, edges, and the formal notation of a graph. I didn’t have an appreciation for how graphs could be applied to creating and managing associations with various items by applying them as vertices or edges in a way beyond their representation as numeric coordinates.…

These questions come at a very interesting time for be in my UT development – I both met my host teacher today, and I have been working in Gilmor elementary (where I have been placed) during the summer placement. The conversation with my host teacher was pretty neutral. The setting of the meeting was not altogether the greatest. I was in the unair-conditioned cafeteria eating lunch with my students when I was introduced (AMBUSHED) by the site coordinator to my host teacher for the year. The conversation was actually pretty short, and included a pretty neutral interaction – it was neither overly positive or overly negative.…

According to Jean Kilbourne, advertisements are so compelling that everyone feels personally exempt from advertising since they influence our subconscious minds (468). In fact, only eight percent of advertisements are processed through the conscious mind while the remaining information is processed through the subconscious (Kilbourne 469). Advertisements have the power to influence our values, choices, wants, and needs. An individual ad can be entertaining, absurd, and quirky, but if we observe advertisements as an undivided unit they clearly dominate how the population functions. It is like we are under an inescapable mind control.…
