One of the possible negative side effects associated with playing video games is eye stress. Those who tend to play video games for extended periods of times are most likely staring at a computer or TV screen for long periods of time without taking that many breaks. This can be stressful on your eyes and can lead to, Computer Vision Syndrome , which is “The name for eye problems caused by computer use (WebMD, Computer Vision Syndrome).” The symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome include blurred vision, double vision, dry, red eyes, eye irritation, headaches, and neck or back pain. Thankfully you can very easily prevent and or treat this, simply you just have to stop looking at the screen for a small period, close your eyes and then blink a few times afterward. The blinking part of it is quite important as well because people tend to blink less when playing video games or staring at a computer screen. One helpful rule to keep in mind is the 20-20-20 rule. You have to look 20 meters away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. If you are the type of person that play multiplayer games, then you can do this whenever you are in between rounds or when you are loading into the next match. If multiplayer games are not your thing then try doing the rule, every time you reach a checkpoint or every time you die.
