Many modern video games are not designed for children. Some are designed and marketed solely for adults. These games often contain much more mature themes and have content that is unsuitable for children. This unsuitable content can include violence, language, sexuality, gambling, and alcohol, tobacco and drug use and many others.
The Entertainment Software Rating Board is a non-profit organization, created in 1994 by the Entertainment Software Association, that evaluates video games and then assigns them ratings so that parents can make informed choices (ESRB). Virtually all video games that are sold in the United States and Canada have been voluntarily rated by the ESRB.
