This essay is about my personal opinions on the topic of using Native Americans as Sport Team mascots. This will also include several resources to back up my thoughts.
Native Americans should not be used as mascots unless they are representing the Native Americans in a kind manner. I believe that because some Native Americans may take offense when terms such as “redskin” are used as team spirit.
This is one of my pieces of evidence to support my claim that Native American slurs shouldn’t be used unless they are not racially profiling.
This article was written by the ‘Washington Post’ and the authors were Theresa Vargas & Annys Shin. A campaign inside of the article stated that “The use of such an offensive term has negative consequences for the Native American community when it comes to issues of self-identity and imagery.”

This article contains information about the decision to change sport team names from Native American terms and also about how the places were affected by the decisions. The ´NCAA’ (National Collegiate Athletic Association) began to change any sport team in any highschool with a name or logo considered racially or ethnically "hostile" and "abusive". The NCAA would be prohibited from using the team names in postseason events. This affected the schools by forcing them to change the logos and/or nicknames. This evidence shows that people will be excluded for using racial slurs as apart of the sport team. It supports my claim by proving that there will be consequences for using inappropriate terms as apart of their daily lives in sports. This article supported my opinion by interviewing members of the ‘NCAA’. The article gave me inside information as to why they were supporting the change of sports teams name and
